Hi

I just wondered if someone can tell me the cylinder firing order for a Massey Ferguson TEA-20 (petrol, spark plug) engine.

Also, what order and position are the leads connected to the distributor e.g. from the lead for cylinder 1, what are each of the next leads going clockwise ? And, of course, where abouts is the lead for cylinder 1 connected (relative to the distributor case) ?

Am I right in assuming cylinder 1 is the closest to the FRONT of the tractor ?

I have borrowed the Gregory's Scientific manual from the local library, but it doesn't specifically mention the firing order (at least, not that I could find !!!)

For some reason our TEA-20 seems to be missing badly and backfiring once the revs are increased. I am suspecting (a) that someone has crossed two ignition leads or (b) that the distributor has not been tightened enough and so the timing has slipped out of whack.

Any help appreciated

Firing order is 1 3 4 2. No.1 connection on the distributor is 1st clockwise of locating tab,(at about 8 o'clock as viewed from above), then going clockwise next is no.2 cylinder then 4, then 3.
Hope this helps.

Jason, Firing order is 1,3,4,2. No 1 cylinder is nearest radiator. I'll get back to you with plug lead locations.
Pete.
