I have a MF 65 with an excellent motor, Perkins 4 cyl. diesel, the problem is that the rest of this tractor is flat wore out, I mean both clutches are gone, the 3 pt. hitch leaks bad, numerous seals leaking, the hydraulics are shot, tires are bad ,etc. I would like to swap the motor to a newer model tractor,we have several salvage tractor auctions nearby. What later model tractor would accept this motor? possibly a 165 or maybe a 230 something or what, thanks for the help. Johnny in E.Tx.

Johnny, Swapping the motor (if you can) is the easy way out. Just roll up your sleeves, open your tool box and get on with a full restoration. It's not that difficult or expensive, and at the end of the day when you've
got a superbly restored tractor you'll be glad you did. There's no greater feeling of satisfaction, (well one maybe), in the world.
Regards,
Pete.

My dad bought this tractor in the early 70's and I always hated running it, it was supposed to have power steering but it never worked very well, I parked it 2 years ago hoping it would just go away but it never did, so the other day I put a fresh battery on it and it started right up, what I need is a decent rake tractor and something to pull a tedder with for next season. The parts for a rebuild would run me about 3-4 thousand dollars. I don't want to put that kind of money in this tractor. I mean this old tractor needs everything, a clutch, some 3 pt. arms, tires,a seat,a drawbar, lift pump, power steering pump, and I also need one set of remote hydraulics. I am going to keep my eye open for a later model with a bad motor and try to do the swap. Johnny

Sell it to somebody who'll keep it whole. What your talking about is only a little more than a weekend's work. A clutch is only a couple hundred bucks, and unless the pump bodies are busted, those can be rebuilt too. Power steering may just be worn links in the adjustment turnbuckle.

You could pull a tedder or rake with a 9n. That 65 built for sterner stuff!

My rake weighs more than a 9n, I ran this tractor through the local auction twice and high bid was $300, they just aren't worth much around here, escpecially one needing as much work as this tractor. I found a MF165 with a rod through the block at junk yard for $850, may go back and get it. Johnny
