I am buying a 1957 Pony. I have a few questions for anyone with any experience. The hitch will lift up, but as soon as you put some weight on it, it goes back down. The guy who is selling it says it just started happening, it will still lift cultivators, but not discs or a plow. Anyone with any experience with this problem? How difficult is it to fix? Anyway to rule out this being a problem with the pump?
Second, will I be able to convert the 2pt to use with a bush hog of the three point variety? How about the PTO. This one has a cap bolted over where I assume the driveshaft would come out. Do I just remove the cap and attach a drive shaft there? New to the tractor hobby, and could use some help. Thanks.
Jim

The cap is the safety shield over the PTO, 3 bolts to remove. Not sure of that year, but pony PTO shafts are typically 1 1/8, not 1 3/8, adaptors are available, if you run a brushhog get an overrunning clutch adaptor (same used on ford N series), otherwise plan on going farther than you expect when you put the clutch in. Check the weight of the brushhog also...

Id also like to see pictures of the 3point conversion, considering possibilities for mine.

Ken,
Do you have a brush mower? How big is it and how well does it cut? I have found a 48" that is a pull behind. I'd rather have one that I can lift with the hitch.

No, I have sickle bar mowers for mine. I would love to get a brush mower.... I wouldnt mind a 48" pullbehind though - but you're right, lift is nice also. Anything with a fair amount of mass (any of the spinning blade type mowers) are much safer with the overrunning clutch, not really a problem with the sickle bar mowers as they dont have the momentum buildup... Sorry for the late reply but I just got back in to check.

BTW, I figure a set of pivioting bars attatched to the points where the drawbar attatches to the finals and lift rods to the current lift mechanism, with a chain toplink, would work pretty well with a brushmower...

Good Luck -K

Thanks for the pointer. I know a lot of people on the board would like to see your conversion when its done. Let me know, maybe you can post some pictures.
