I am recently the proud owner of a 52 TO 30. Runs and looks great. Using it to keep the grass down on 12 acres here in upstate NY. Can anyone give me a clue on how to stop throttle creep. I have the manual, and have tightened the backing spring all the way. Maybe another trick?. Creeps slowly towards idle. Thanks, Ron.

Thanks to al for the followups. Should have some cork material around. Quarter inch sounds good. Thanks, Ron

Jim and Chris are right. My TO 30 needed a new cork "washer" once in the last 48 years. I made the "washer" from 1/4in. material. I use brake parts cleaner to remove oil and dust occasionally, then lightly sand to remove slick surface, , but I don't glue/tape the cork to anything.

Throttle creep usually happens when the fiber washer between the plates gets oil soaked or just worn out. Rick

I use my dads TO20 once in a while and if I run it at high throttle speed it will slow down after a bit.I just bump it back up every 15-20 min or so. I was at a tractor show last weekend and a guy had a TO20 there that he bought new. it had a tensioning bracket in the throttle lever. it bolted on the steering staft housing and put tension on the throttle lever. It was smooth and had no notches. Dads tractor doesn't have that bracket. It was too nice to be something someone made and with all the angles would have been a real tough one to make!. May be there was something like that on yours that is now missing? I never saw a bracket like that on the fergusons I have seen in the past. I am not familliar with the TO30s but I think they are pretty simillar to the TO20 if I am not mistaken.

Did it originally have a fiber washer between the
plates? If not, maybe it should. Does anyone know?

Thanks for the comment Al. Not sure if it had some sort of material between the plate and wall. Seems like it should have fiber, leather, or ?. Will keep checking this forum. First time on. Ron

On my MF there is a washer between the
plates.
The one which was on my tractor last year
was no telling how old and it (the washer)
was almost non-existant so I replaced it.

I used some cork gasket material which I cut to fit the plate on the throttle shaft and
I glued it in position using the yellow weatherstrip adhesive used for automotive
weatherstrip applications.

Works good with the new cork!

Jim
