I thought you folks would like seeing my 1959 Massey Ferguson model 85. I have gone all through this tractor and restored it as close to original as I could. If any one has any questions about this model, feel free to email me and I'll reply to as many as I can. See this tractor in the Massey photo gallery. (I'd add the picture link to this message if I knew how)

Awesome tractor!! I have a Model 85 still all original, used daily, looks like it too. The power steering and PTO won't work after mowing for a while. Any ideas or helpful information would be appreciated. Have been trying to find the rubber cups that go over the shift levers with no results. Any ideas or help?

Thanks for the compliment. The power steering on mine was weak also until I installed a new power steering pump for about $700; way too much money but necessary for steering and PTO. You may get by with just a kit but, the housing was too badly worn on mine. I replaced my gear shift boots which were available from Massey Ferguson. When ordering parts for your 85 from MF don't let them forget about Heritage. My dealer told me Heritage is a division of Agco which stocks many parts for older equipment at a lower price.

Beautiful job!

I am going to look at one today on short notice.

Can you give me any info on the tractor's performance? Does it have the Continental?

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks for the compliment, Mark. My tractor has a 223 Continental gas engine. The 223 represents the cubic inches. I'm sorry but, I can't help with the diesel. Did you get your tractor? If you did and you need Continental parts, Montes Equipment has many NOS and after market parts. He is also very helpful locating other sources. If you (or anyone) needs information on salvage yards that has MF 85 parts just let me know. I'll tell you about the good guys and the not so good guys.

Yes, I need some serious parts sources for MF-85's as I just bought two and a half of them. One wide front, one narrow front, and one back half, included to fix the narrow front 85's rearend. Appartantly a gear or something came loose in the rearend and cracked the rearend housing from the inside.

Any help would be greatly appreciated ya'll.

Thanks Mike.

Just looked at it and it's real clean.

Don't know if I want to spring for it though.

Will keep you posted.

Mark

Good-looking tractor. I'm not very well-versed in MF. What hp is it? I recently bought a 1969 165 Diesel that had belonged to a cousin who passed away. I did lots of repairs on it because he didn't take very good care of it. Seems to be a good tractor though. What do you use your tractors for? I wish I had more reason to use the ones I have. Have 4, need one about 20 hours a year I guess. Again, nice job.

Thanks for the compliment, Stan. I have heard from others on this board that the tractor is 60 to 65 HP but, I have not heard officially. I'll bet Big Dean would know. We have 18 acres that is about half timber and use the tractor and 6 foot Bush Hog to keep the other half mowed. Also we use this tractor for clearing the downed trees, grading our paths through the timber, landscaping, digging post holes, and snow removal during winter.
