Hi - I usually hang out at the green place, but have an open mind and several non-green things. I just returned from a trip to Saskatchewan (Canada), and one of my uncles has a couple of Masseys, one is a 44, complete/unrestored/not running, the other is a 555, missing front wheels, otherwise complete/unrestored/not running. He was surprised that there might be anyone interested in these 2 machines, I told him I'd try to find out interest and ball-park prices, so here I am. I know they aren't rare, but what is the range for these machines ? US or CDN $, Thanks, Ron

Ron, prices are a funny thing and to put a value on something, well you know what it's like. First, if the engines are not stuck, they'll likely run and the seller should take the time to get them going if he can. Obviously if a guy is interested in buying, a tractor that isn't running drops the price considerably. Even buying a non-running tractor could mean tons of problems with transmission, differential, etc. Then of course there's hydraulics. I think most of the 55's had them but a lot of the 44's didn't. And getting a factory pump for a 44 isn't that easy or that cheap if you find one. Rear rubber is also a big consideration. Those are big tires and if they're in sad shape, well the price drops again. As a result, prices vary widely. Here in central Alberta, there are a lot of 44's for sale in the local Buy & Sell paper. I've seen ones like your uncle's advertised for as little as $300 - $500 (Canadian) and then running ones from say $600 to $3500 (with a loader) so it's hard to say. If you'd post the tire condition, it might be helpful. As they sit in Saskatchewan, I'd guess he might get anywhere from $300 - $800 (Canadian) as they sit.

Thanks, Mike - that's close enough to let him know at least. Seen any good D parts around cheap - such as a mag or grill ? I noticed passing through and talking to people from up your way that the rain apparently came back - crops looked good in most of prairies except south and north parts of Sask. The canola in the Melfort/Tisdale area is still on the ground and hasn't shot up at all - they are a little worried because some of the grain is starting to head out real short and not very large. Ahh ! The life of a farmer - waiting to see what mother nature is going to throw at you next ! Talk to you soon - let me know if you find a D with those parts and you may find me in your neighbourhood. I will have some new stuff up on my Photopoint site in a week or so - including a few Masseys - Ron

Sorry for the multiple posting, but it came up as "internal server error", so I hit it a couple more tries.
