I have a MF35 Delux with a very loose shifter. It shifts fine as long as I push down on the shift knob as I shift, but binds and is hard to find the shift gate if I don't push down.

Can this be repaired by removing shift lever from the top by removing a pin? It might come apart, but can I get it together without further disassembly? I hear of someone welding up the ball on the bottom of the shift lever, but how? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with my MH. After removing the cover plate that the ball was attached to (which I discovered I didn't have to do), it turned out to be the snap ring that holds
the ball in the socket came loose. I should have
noticed, it was at the bottom of my shift stick
and I thought it was some scrap ring that the previous owner slid over it.

With the cover off, it did give me a chance to study the shift mechanism though.

I am not sure why the previous responses were posted. Maybe he has a personal axe to grind. I would suggest contacting Big Dean, a retired Massey Ferguson mechanic. His web address is:
