Round balers make BIG bales, and after you have that big bale, you need special equipment for handling them.

This was designed as a labor saving invention.

This lets you handle 500 to 1000 lbs of hay at once with the tractor and put it in storage, or roll it out for feeding.

Most people can't find the workers to put up thousands of rectangular bales in the barn anymore.

They are mostly used by smaller outfits that can't justify the investment in equipment to handle the big bales... and market them to horse people/hobby farmers who only need a few bales now and then and must handle them by hand.

As for the MF12 vs 610.. can't help you on that detail. I have an MF 124 that was regarded as a fairly decent bailer in it's day.

New Holland is pretty widely held to manufacture the best haymaking equipment.
