I purchased a Massey Ferguson 35 at auction in early June.

The serial number (SDM 141738) is located on the right side of the dash, below the throttle. That number is lower than those given in the MF 35 serial number list on this site, which starts at 204181 in 1960. My tractor was manufactured in Great Britain (I assume Coventry) and is equipped with the 4 cylinder Standard Diesel.

Can anyone suggest its year of manufacture? I assume that after Massey Ferguson purchased Perkins Diesel in 1958 most of the later Diesel 35s were manufactured with the 3 cylinder Perkins.

I assume that Massey Ferguson started manufacturing the 35 somewhere in the US in 1960, however I think that the 35 was manufactured in the UK earlier. Is there a site that shows the UK manufacture Serial Numbers for Massey Fergusons?

Glen,
As far as I can tell the FE35 {I think it stands for Ferguson 35 or Ferguson England 35} was born in 1956. Had the 87mm petrol motor or the 23c {2.3 litre} Standard diesel. In the 35 the St diesel went from 1956-59.
Your serial appears to be a late one: 1959. I think the 3 cyl perk arrived the same year.
Hope this helps. Manuel

Thanks for the information. I looked a little harder at the name plate and see that it says it was manufactured by Standard Motor for Massey Ferguson in Coventry. It does mention the model as a FE 35. On the engine there is a stamping SJ129648LD which I assume is the engine serial number and a casting number 302299-5

Looking at the tractor registry on this site, I would guess that yours is a 1959 model.
