2 weeks ago I bought an MF 35 with a Perkins diesel. I am attempting to find out more data about it such as it's age. Were do I look for serials? Also I need help with the gauges. The oil pressure gauge works but none of the others. This tractor appears to be a 12v system. Were these shipped originaly as 6 v? Was the converstion to 12v what is rendering the gauges inoperable?

James,

It looks like the serail is 2007008. The guy I bought it from says he thought it was made in Canada. Is that possible?

TOM,

YES IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MADE IN CANADA. MASSEY-FERGUSON HAD 15 FACTORIES AT ONE TIME IN CANADA, UNITED STATES, GREAT BRITAIN, FRANCE, GERMANY AND AUSTRALIA. THE SERIAL NUMBER 2007008 IS ONE NUMBER TO MANY, BUT ALL MF35 STARTED WITH THE NUMBER 2, SO I AM SURE YOURS IS A MF35. CHECK AGAIN, WILL HAVE ONLY 6 DIGITS. THIS MODEL WAS MADE FROM 1960 TO 1964. IF YOUR SERIAL NUMBER IS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, THEN IT WAS MADE IN NORTH AMERICA THE BEST I CAN TELL. ALL THE MF35 I HAVE SEEN HAS 12 VOLT SYSTEMS. HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU.

JAMES

TOM, BY THE SERIAL NUMBER 207008 ON YOUR MF35,IT WAS BUILT IN THE LATE MONTHS OF 1960. I SAW SOME REPLACEMENT GAUGES IN ONE OF MY TRACTOR BOOKS A FEW MONTHS BACK. WILL TRY AND LOCATE IT THIS WEEKEND AND LET YOU KNOW NEXT WEEK. I WILL SEE WHAT IS ON MY SERIAL NUMBER PLATE ALSO. JAMES

Hi. I have a MF35, serial 222325. Could you tell me what year mine is James? I would appreciate it. And do you know of a good site with some info on this type tractor, or a book, or anything. Thanks.

Tom, I have a 1964 model FE 35 Perkins 3 cyl diesel. The serial number is on a plate to the right of the steering wheel, below the throttle lever. When you locate the serial number, it will tell you where it was manufactured. then you can go to www.tractortips.com and they have a list of serial numbers and what year the tractor was made.
I don't know when 12v was introduced, but mine is 12v and positive ground. The positive ground is probably because mine was manufactured in Coventry, England. That's all I know.

Tom,
As far as I can tell the the MF35 arrived in 1959 with the 3 cylinder perkins. This was replaced by the 35X 1962-4. The X had a few more horses & extra bits & pieces.
The 135 debuted in 1965 with the new shape.
This may vary from country to country.

Manuel, Your coments spur me to thinking. I am not sure then if my tractor is really a MF 35 or something else. Is there a way to positivly I.D. this tractor and figure out what I really have? Maybe its newer and has some of the "extra horespower" you refered to.

Tom,
Don't know what all the differences were between the 35 & 35x.
Multipower trans, padded seat, a few more horses etc. All of these may have been optional. Im not sure. The motor stayed the same size. Went from a 3.152 to an A3.152. I think the X arrived in 1962 in England. Manuel

In Australia they imported MF35 generic machines from Yugoslavia during the 1980s. They were identical to MF35's. During the war in Bosnia all those MF35's featured on the news I assume came from the same factory. Other countries have also produced under licence many of the MF stable of tractors. Most of the cheap MF parts listed by www.bareco.com.au come from asian countries.
Bareco list quite a number of motor and clutch combinations for MF from different countries.

I have a 1964 FE35 with the Perkins 3 cylinder diesel. The FE35 means is was build in Coventry. It is basically the same as the MF35 although some part numbers are different.

It is an exellent tractor.
