This is my first tractor, I've had it for almost 2 years now, and I have fell in love with the old beast, I even injoy doing minor repairs. But this is a bad time of the year to have it tore apart. I do have to say that the old boy has been kind enough to wait till I was ready to put him away before causing me a headache. Three weeks ago it was the water pump, and yesterday it stuck in reverse.
I when to the house and checked the archives for this problem. I seen the same problem with a 35 and 50 and how to fix it. So off I when, I removed the tran plug, I can see two of the shift rods, but I can't see if the shift forks are aligned. So I stuck a scew driver in trying to get something to move ( I did have the clutch pressed down, and the lower gears did move smoothly ). No luck! Am I missing something? Is it the same on a MF65? What do I pry on? How much pry pressure can I apply with out braking something? I can just hear the beast saying " now that we are done working for the day I have something to tell you, STOP SHIFTING ME SO FAST, AND DON'T PULL ON MY SHIFTER WHEN YOUR CHANGING MY GEARS".

Thanks for any help you can offer.
Todd

You might also jack the rear wheels clear of the groung this will take pressure off the transmission and rear end. Then fool around with the shifter forks. regards

i have a shop manual if you want a pic of what the shifter assy looks like. the other thng is, no its not hard to tell which one is where. on my 50 its to the left and forward for reverse. this means the bottom of the shifter shaft is to the right and back in the trans. the means the shift fork on the right, farthest away from the filler cap, is setting in the pushed back position and the shifter shaft is actually in the left shift fork in the neutral position. take a screwdriver about 12 inches long and put a 45 degree in it about 6 inches up from the tip. now go in thru the filler cap and go behind the shifter and push fairly hard on the shift fork pushing it forward. just dont break the screwdriver off in the trans, thats real bad. this is how i get mine out of reverse when its hung there, and its happened a few times speed shifting trying to get a stump or two pulled out

Thanks guys.
I when back and looked at more of the archives and found one from Big Dean. He said to pry the big gear belowe forward. I did that with little effort. Then I was stuck in first gear, but I could see the shifter fork for that. With in 10min I was up and running.
Thanks again for the help.

This post was quite a while ago, but I have found a quicker remedy. Just lift the rubber boot on the shifter lever. Then drive the pin out that holds the shifter in place in the pivot (under the boot). Pull up on the shifter lever and drop it back in place between the forks. It helps if you know what it looks like in there.
