I have my 2775 torn down in the dealer's shop to change a cracked rear end casting. All of the disassembled parts look good except for the pinion gear which has 2 or 3 teeth scuffed up. The ring gear looks fine. The dealer is going to check salvage yards for a used ring/pinion set. I may also do some checking on my own and would appreciate any leads you guys may have. My question is, why do I have to change both the ring and pinion as a matched set? Why can't I get just a new or used pinion gear to use with my good ring gear? Don't they have to adjust clearances with shims anyway? BTW, new price is ... are you sitting down? ... $2500!!!

The dealer found a new ring/pinion set and ordered it from another dealer. Not going to cost as much as ordering from the factory, only a couple hundred more than used. Yes, I told the guys that we only want to get into this thing once so do it right. I hope after they get done with it that it will outlast me and it should.
