The M.F. 65 is a good tractor, the only drawback is the Continental gas engine in my opinion. The parts are higher priced than for the diesel engine, and some of the parts for the gas engine are getting hard to come across. Unless the tractor already has aloader installed, I would not advise. The mounting brackets and drive acessories for a front mounted pump can be difficult to find. If you hook the loader hydraulics to the three point hitch hydraulics reaction time is very slow on the loader. The 3pt. hitch pump only puts out approx. 3 1/2 g.p.m., you need around 12-14 g.p.m. for the loader to operate satisfactorly.

I would like to add to this that it is possible to get a Multi power pump from a MF tractor, like the 135 or so, get the mounting accessories, then get a special valve that gives you both oil from the regular pump, and the MP pump and have enough pump capacity for a loader.

I agree, the Perkins diesel, either the 192 or the 203 engine is a very good choice, smooth running engine, excellent quality.

I've had one for a couple of months and like it a lot. Mine's a "58 (first year made)

I think it has about 49 HP with the continental engine -- more than most "hobby" tractors.

I've used mine for bush hogin' and grading - plenty
of power for both.

Can't speak to the loader issue.

I had a book of tractor prices.

I seem to recall $2800 for '58s to $3300 for the "64s and 65s

Probably could add a thou for the loader.

One thing I realy like as a "Hobbyist" - really wide track available on both front and back wheels -
minimal rollover risk!

I have one with a Woods front end loader on it. I am thinking of selling it. I am running the loader off of the hydralics and the one guy that said they are slow is right. If I keep it I am going to put a pump on it. It would be pretty darn good if it had the pump. I have had some big loads in it. Just bought new rear tires and had them loaded ( Big Help )

See ya, Red Dog

About the hydraulic pump on MF 65 (also MF 35)

If you like, you can get a Mark 2 pump from a MF 135 - MF 165. They fit perfectly in the MF 65 (MF 35 too)
The Mark 2 pump is found on MF 135 from someplace in 1969 to someplace in 1975. And on the MF 165 from someplace in 1965 to someplace in 1975 it seems. After that they have the Mark 3 pump which is not interchangeable (different splines).
(At least on UK MF models)

The Mark 2 pump is a little bigger in capacity than the Mark 1 pump, you will get a filter if not on your old tractor, then if you take it from a MultiPower tractor you will have the complete pump setup with multipower pump too.

Thanks for the advise, Bill. I will right it down and keep it in mind. If I remember right the dealer quoted me around $700 for a pump.

Thanks, Red Dog

$700, that's a new Mark 1 or 2 pump..... if you find a good used pump, you can get a overhaul kit for it and make it like new.
