Two questions (from a non-farmer who just bought a used MF135 for use around my property):

1. The hydraulic/transmission fluid is very low. For the life of me, though, I cannot figure out where to add the fluid. Please help!

2. I got an old reprint owner's manual that discusses that only MF Oil, Spec M-1129 should be used to fill the hydraulics/transmission. There is no MF dealer nearby. Can I substitute something from the local Farm & Fleet store for this oil?

Also, this old reprint manual is not as helpful as I would like regarding general maintenence and such. The pictures are hard to see and somewhat poorly labelled. Anyone have a better reference manual that I could obtain somewhere?

The trans/diff/hyd are filled from the filler located next to the steering gear, on top of the cover. It's a large nut, on a 2.5" filler cap.

You can use any good quality tractor diff/hyd oil, about 10-20 wt. It must be qualified for diff use, or it will not protect the gears! I use Texaco TDH oil.

You really need to drain both housings and start over fresh. There are two drain plugs on the bottom; one under the trans, and one on the rear. Crawling under the machine should reveal these. total capacity is about 8 gallons.

You should also seriously consider checking/cleaning the filter screen. This really requires removal of the lift cover. The screen can be seen after draining, by removing the PTO lever on the left side. But, removing the filter screen can be difficult unless you are a contortionist! It is only partially accessable, and you are blocked by the tire/fender. It is common for the screen to be damaged by water in the system.

Removal of the lift cover REQUIRES a service manual, or you will break things!!

Email if you have more questions.
