I friend of mine has a 1964 MF TO-35 Deluxe and we were wondering about the "Deluxe". What makes it a Deluxe? Is there a big difference between this model and a regular TO-35? Just curious.

I have a TO-35 Deluxe, which my Grandad bought new in 1960, has no power adjust wheels, no power steering, no tool box, no lights. Does have a 2 stage clutch, and an add on remote hyd valve. VERY nice tractor to use on my MF12 Baler and any other implement requiring LPTO. I'm 59 and the 3rd owner of this tractor, my Dad being the 2nd owner. Thanks, John

I own a -62 35D standard model with 3-cyl Perkins.

My manual show's the standard and the deluxe model, and the difference's I can see is.

Deluxe
1. Tractormeter
2. A more expensive seat with back support
3. Dual clutch

Standard
1. No tractormeter
2. A seat that is adjustable and is possible to flip over (rain)
3. Single clutch

Typically the deluxe MF 35 has power adjust wheels and a built in fender tool box. The 35 special was a bargain model, no lights, single stage clutch (sometimes called the 35X) The middle of the road is the MF 35, which is what I am in the process of rebuilding. Lights, dual sage clutch but no power adjust wheels or tool box. I agree about the U.K. 35's the standard diesel is a dog! Who designs a 4 cylinder diesel with only three main bearings?

When I was a kid I used to wet my pants when I got to run the neighbor's 35 Diesel Deluxe. I was plum beat to pieces, but I saw nothing but a handsome, strong pulling, handy little tractor. When I grow up, I'm going to own one. Question: is a 1964 35 really a TO-35? I thought the TO (and TE) was dropped in the 1960 production year.

A gentleman named Jack in NB provided the following:
The third letter in the serial number should be "F" for single stage, "M" for dual clutch. There are three or four letters: S(D,G,N)(F,M,)and possibly Y ahead of 5 or 6 serial numbers. S=standard (or low clearance) chassis, D= Perkins diesel engine
G= Gas
N= Standard (4 cyl) diesel Y= differential lock if equipped. The plate is often missing. If so, there's an earlier series of posts (early March?) about how to tell the single stage/2 stage clutch without the plate. The 35's are probably the most cost-effective tractors around today. You get more bang (or rather purr - the bang is coloured green!) for your buck than anything else on the market. As with any used unit you may have some initial problems bringing it up to speed, but parts are readily available. Perkins engines are highest power (38 hp compared with 32/35), most fuel-efficient, and parts are the cheapest of the three. This seems ok for the American built units, but does not fit the FE35 that was built in Coventry, England.

I agree with most of your post, except the middle letter. My to-35 is a SDM, the D stands for diesel. Mine is a standard, not a Perkins. The M, I am told, stands for deluxe.
