I bought a MF35 with Perkins diesel about 4 years ago with the thought that someday I'd tear her down, clean, and repaint her. She's been a great little work horse, brush hogging around my dad's 55 acres, hauling dirt, brush, etc. Well the 'right' time seemed to have arrived. She's scattered thoughout the garage. What a mess! I know where old grease and dirt went to die - my tractor. It seemed at times I'd have to take a hammer and chisel to it. After four LONG weeks it's down to mostly bare metal, just the frame though, haven't started on the sheetmetal yet, ugh. She needed a water pump, front wheel bearings, and about 4000 assorted nuts, bolts, clamps, this that and the other.
I might have her primered and painted this week-end. Thank GOD. I'm something of a perfectionist, so I drive my family nuts, and take the fun out of it. Would I do it again? NO WAY!

Don't feel too bad, I have been through two machines swearing up and down that this will be my last one. Now I'm rerestoring parts of the first one I don't like the looks of. And to make things worse, I've already set myself up for another machine worse off than the one's I started with in the first place. Now, I know if I can get the next one completed I will never have doubts in myself again.

Hey Terry!
Today I'm the one saying "never again"! Finally started painting the Earthmaster. Already sandblasted and primed it 'bout a month ago. Today I finish sanded, then painted most everything that I had off the tractor. That's more than half of the whole. Maybe tomorrow I'll get to do the main skeleton that's left. Tonite it seems that my butt's dragging my tracks out! Now I wanna say "never again"! Maybe I'll forget how much work it was by the time I start the next one. See ya,

Yeah, I know where your coming from.

The trick is, a bit at a time and it's got
to be an unrushed hobby. If you remove skin
after that wrench slips, call it a day.

Best winter pass time too.

I allways feal the same way you do when I am almost done with a tractor. I just want to get it finished and never tackle a nother project again. Well it seams that I just can't stop. I allways find my self working on a tractor weather it's mine or someone elses. So just keep calm and remember that everyone fills the same stress you are fealing.

Hey Terry, I kinda understand your predicament. I'm restoring an Earthmaster, got it all cleaned, engine out and rebuilt by me, everything sandblasted and primed, ready to paint. I like things to be done right and look good too, and it gets to where it seems like a never-ending job. What I've tried to teach myself, is to not worry about getting it all done today, just enjoy the work, ( I really do enjoy fixing this old stuff, always have) and when it all is finished I'll be able to appreciate the job and maybe be ready for the next one. Got a Ford 2000 Offset that would look really good restored too! And a MM Avery V. And a MF 165D. Just gotta relax and enjoy it. Of course if you don't enjoy it, then it's not really the thing to be doing. Good Luck.

Thanks Stan. I just get caught up in "it'll never get done". There's no hurry, no pressure, so darn if I know why I feel like I'm under some kinda time restraint. I just need to mellow, mellow...
Thanks again.
Terry

You guys need to read a book my sister got me when I got my pony. The name is Busted Tractors and Rusty Knuckles by Roger Welsh. If you have ever restored a tractor you will bust a gut reading this.

I've got three books by Roger Welsch. I too, can relate to some of his experiences.

I've got all three books too. Love his crazy humor. Sounds like he has entirely to much fun!
