Using my MF 135 the other day and shifted from second to first. now the shift lever is stuck in first gear and will not budge.Tractor still moves but won't come out of first.Do i have to take steering column/cover all apart to fix or is there some way to just take shift lever out?

i have a mf50 that has the same problem, and it always happens when i just couldnt think of a worse time for it to. any way i now have a screw driver about 12 inches long bent for just this occasion, and it is ALWAYS in the tool box on the tractor, like my american express, i never leave home without it

Joe,
I had the exact same problem with my 135 this Saturday, only mine was stuck in reverse. I managed to un-stick it in about 5 minutes by removing the big oil filler plug just to the left of the main shifter lever. This, by the way, is the 6 speed transmission. Anyway, by prying around with a large screwdriver sort of to the rear and towards the center of the tractor at the top, I was able to find a small rod looking thing, pushed it forward with the screwdriver and all was well. I know this probably isn't much help to you, it was starting to rain here and I just wanted to get it to the barn without having to back up for quite a long way.Consequently when it finally popped into neutral I buttoned it back up without paying much attention to just what I had done. Just look in there with a good flashlight and try to find something that looks like it might be stuck. All is not lost and hopefully someone will have a little clearer answer for you. Good Luck!
