My neighbor has a mf135 that dies when you give it gas.He said last year it seemed like it was losing power a little. So he changed plugs/wires/points/rotor/cap,etc.still wont run worth a darn.He flushed the gas tank and added new gas.Had the carb. rebuilt by a mf dealer. The dealer said the anti-diesel valve is working fine too.A compression check showed everything is fine in there. The only thing i havn't personally checked is the points adjustment-but he swears he did it per the manual.seems to run ok for a few minutes at idle, then dies.If you give it gas at all ,it dies.If you feather the gas,it backfires or dies.He says he has seen sparks around the distributor.Says he thinks it's grounding out.Does anyone out there know what's goin on with this machine?Anyone experience similar problems and know a fix?PLEASE HELP. Sean.

Take a good look at the distributor shaft and make sure it is not slightly bent and turning in an oval path. I had this happen to me and the previous owner said that the points were very hard to get set. It was easy to see why, when the points were set correctly for one side of the distributor the other side could not be. A quick trip to my local machinist and he straightened it so that it works now with no problem. ( The previous owners had some top mechanics work on the tractor and they failed to pick up on the bent shaft) Good luck

Hi Sean, Has the distributer cap been changed? They can have a hair line crack which is almost invisible which will cause the engine to misfire and seeing sparks around the distributor would made me suspicious. Also you could take your plugs out and read them. If one or two plugs are blacker than the rest they are misfiring. My bet at this point from what you've said is a cracked distributor cap. Good luck. Keep us posted. Someone always has the answer on the board. Dave-Ontario.

The cap has been changed.Twice.The first one was defective. The carbon center electrode was loose. We havn't seen sparks since. He said the wire from the distributor to the coil was fried.(The little wire that goes in to the points)He replaced that. When he put the carb back on he gooped up the gasket alot.I'm wondering if maybe some goop got inside and is clogging up the works. My next step will be to check for vacuum leaks. If you have a spare ignition coil I'd say give that a try. Has the condensor been replaced as well as the points. I have heard a bad condensor can cause problems such as what is happening with your subject tractor.

Hi Sean, The description you gave on your first post leads me to think that your problem is electrical. Did you look at the spark plugs to see what they looked like. If they are black they are likely misfiring for some reason. Dave

CHECK SPARK PLUG GAP AND CHANGE TO A HIGHER RATED
CONDENSER TO GET MORE CURRENT THRU PLUGS
