Does anybody have a good source for obtaining a new gas tank. The one I have is rusty inside and am having a hard time keeping the carb from getting clogged.

Does anybody have any experience in having a radiator shop soak the tank to remove the rust. Will the rust return later if it is removed?

Any help would be appreciated.

I had same problem with my 65 I took the tank off and put some kerosene with a couple of nuts inside of tank and shook it several times to sorta bang on the rust drained it and rinsed it out with gasoline.LET DRY GOOD Get some gas tank sealer (several places carry it) follow instructions and coat the inside of tank 2-3 times. All this is not hard to do.be sure to plug you sediment bowl exit when using sealer.

Yes, good advice.

Pebbles work even better than nuts, as they seem to have a better scraping action. Throw a bunch in, and get some kid to shake it around for an hour or two. You should use something as a solvent, but play safe.

Fuel shut-off assembly (thing that holds the sediment bowl) should unscrew quite easily, and a pipe plug should suffice to plug the opening. This is the type of thing that I always save the plastic plugs that come on new hydraulic parts for. Wash with water and soap, rinse with water, and let completely dry before applying the sealer.
