Hi all -
Recently aquired an MF 283 tractor, and one item no one (not even local MF mechanics) can tell me about. The PTO control lever has two positions besides off: "motor" (the usual engine-driven PTO), and "solo". This "solo" seems to do nothing - PTO shaft can be freely turned by hand. The lever has a mushy feel when entering this position, not at all like the crisp snap going into "motor". So what the devil is "solo"?? The tractor was made in Brazil, so these are spanish designations, I assume. Engine PTO position works fine.

Some MF tractor have what they call "Ground PTO". When in this position, the pto only turns when the tractor is in motion and the speed is directly related to the ground speed. Not sure if it is used very often but on my MF290 I use it when using my rotary hay rake.

Thanks, Rip. It doesn't seem to be a ground-PTO, unless it is faulty; I've got that on my MF 203. In the "solo" position, the PTO shaft turns freely by hand, and doesn't turn when I move the tractor. If it really is supposed to be ground-PTO, I've got some nasty work to do inside :-).
