See several MF 35's advertised, went to look at
a couple, were both red with live pto and the
hood opened in the center for access to gas
tank.Both had 2 gear shift levers,and both
serial tags said TO-35.Someone told me these were
the old grey fergusons someone was just trying
to pass off as a MF 35.Whats The difference?

My father bought a new one in 1961. I remember it well. Red and flint grey, and the plate on the dash said TO 35. Ours was a Special. Our neighbor bought a new one about the same time, and it was a Deluxe. The best that I can remember, the difference was the Deluxe had more gauges including a tach with hour meter maybe. I still have the owners manual that came with ours when new.

I just looked at my manual, and it shows a white emblem on the front of the hood that says Ferguson.

Yes, TO-35s were red/flint gray in 1959-1960. They are essentially the same tractor. TO-35 production began in 1954 and MF production ended in 1963. The MF label began in 1960. In 1954 Harry Ferguson, Inc. merged with Massey-Harris. The evolution from the TO-35 designation to the MF 35 designation evolved over a period of several years. Minor mechanical and cosmetic changes occurred. Improved hydraulics and the introduction of the Perkins diesel were the most notable. Mike, if you will send me your e-mail address, I'll e-mail you back a chart (8-1/2" x 14" legal size paper) that shows the evolution.

Hope this helps.

Paul; I would also like the evolution explanation of the TO-35 to the MF-35. Thank you so much. (I'm especially confused on the correct color schemes). [email protected]
