What would cause this? Gasoline runs out of the carburetor on Massey Fergusson Lawn Tractor.

This tractor has a 10hp Tecumsuh (horizontal crank shaft) engine. it was stored during the winter with the gas tank empty. when I attempt to refill tank, gasoline runs directly out of the carburetor. Does anyone know what causes this and what repairs are needed. Thanks

Dirt, scale, rust other junk.???....When you drained it, it could've allowed moisture to form on the side walls, turning to rust. Filling back up with gas rinsed the stuff into the carb. Crap is stuck between the needle valve and seat. When I store machines, I use a product called Sta-bil. It keeps the gas from deteriorating. I also fill it up to keep tank from condensation. Other guys may disagree, but this in much easier.....Dave
