I recently bought a MF-135 which has a dual clutch. I would like to know if there any way to check the condition of the clutches without splitting the tractor to look at them. The tractor runs find and pulls good under a load. The only thing that concerns me is that when the tractor is running and in neutral with the clutch out and you go to shift into a gear, you have to wait a few seconds before shifting so as not to grind the gears. Is this normal or signs the clutch is worn? I adjusted the pedal to spec ant that has helped a lot. Thanks for any tips

The other problem is that the clutch plate can become a little distorted, this will cause the clutch to drag, and the gears never completely slow down.

the few seconds you have to wait is normal. these arent synchronized trannys. and the gears are fairly good sized, what you are doing is waiting for them to slow enuf to engage them, this is normal, unless you have trouble shifting again even after every thing stopped

The clutch pedal free play is important and you did right to adjust it.

There should be an access plate below the clutch which would allow access to the three clutch adjusting nuts, 120 degrees apart. A service manual should tell you what the clearance needs to be. You may have to make up a simple gage to check it.

Others, like Jack in New Brunswick, have said that it doesn't want to be any more than what the book says.

I know our MH50 started needed readjustment about 4 or 5 baling seasons after I redid the clutch on it.

Good luck.

My service manual for my 135 say 0.090" clearance for the 3 adjustor nuts.
