I have a MF 165 diesel which has a slow leak at the power steering unit near the radiator. A farmer friend of mine swears by a product made by "Luke" that is designed to stop power steering leaks. The problem is the "Luke" product talks about its compatibility with power steering fluid and not permatran III which is what I'm using withing the power steering unit.

does anyone have any comments on using a power steering stop leak? is there one that is suited for this application? Can i use this "luke" product w/o damaging the unit?

thanks in advance.

Dean:

I had the same problem with my MF-165 diesel rowcrop model. It's better to buy the rebuild kit for the steering cylinder/valve assy. (mostly O-rings and seals) from Central Tractor or your MF dealer (not very expensive) and rebuild the unit. Took me less than a day and I was able to tighten up the linkage (a traditional weak point).

Good Luck.

The automotive transmission parts company "ATP" makes a stop leak called "Re-seal" (part # AT-205), which guarantees to stop any oil based fluid leak (within reason). Available at many parts stores. Worth a look!
