Hi Folks,

I have a MF 180 that sat for about 4 years, I got it running, but it blows blue smoke like it needs rings, but not all the time. The color is exactly like a diesel that is trying to burn summer fuel in wintertime. Power seems OK, but it does weaken under a big load... Sometimes, though not much, the exhaust looks great. When it is blue, I dont get an oil smell, and I have heard after a diesel sits for this long, the injectors will need rebuilt. The previous owner did the heads before storage, and I did have to have my pump done due to the internal governers plugged up with old fuel. Tried injector cleaner for 5 or 6 tanks now....Any thought?? Thanks, Digger

You may want to take the injector out and have them tested. Maybe run a compression test too. If it is not the injectors then it is probably oil getting in the cylinder. If the tractor sat for a long time the rings may need some time to clean up.

Does the tractor sound like it is starving for fuel? Does it smoke real bad when you try to accelerate real quick?

No, it doesnt really sound like its starving for fuel, but it sounds like it is trying to push a heavier load than what it is.....as for the smoke, it blows a bit more, but nothing I would say is unusual.....Also getting a few drops blown out the pipe and peppering my hood, but I cant tell if its oil or diesel. Doesnt smell like oil, but not raw diesel either.....
