I was looking at used tractors and have questions about engines.

1st: I was kind of surprised to find a 3 cyl gas engined MF135. Is this a variation of the Perkins 3 cyl diesel? I have a Ford 3000 3 cyl gas. Anything in common? I know that the europeans rarely use gas engines.

2nd: I saw a MF65 on lot that looked like it had an F-head engine? A rather narrow valve cover over to one edge of the head. Could that have been so? Or was it a neat conversion? I know F-Heads where used in some of the Jeeps, both 4 and 6 cyl. (F-head = exhaust valve in block, intake valve in head)

3rd: I read the English mechanic's story about working on Massey combines with english made overhead cam engines. (at the home page for YT) Did these find their way to Canada? My dad had an old power unit from (prewar?) that I've never seen anywhere else. He used it for running feed grinder and other flatbelt powered equipment. It was already in the rockpile by early 1950's. I have a picture, but not at hand.

From the story:

"Some Masseys had a Chrysler 6 cylinder side valve petrol engine but this was replaced with either a Morris 4 cylinder side valve, petrol / kerosene engine, ... or the beautiful Austin-Newage overhead valve 6 cylinder petrol / kerosene engine as home produced units became available. ... The Austin - Newage was an industrial version of a car engine that powered the luxury Austin cars of the time."

[[I'm sorry, I meant overhead 'valves', not cam.]]
