With all the low sulpher diesel being sold what additive would anyone recommend to keep the injector pump well lubricated and to avoid future damage.

I use Power Service products which can be found at most truck stops and also Wal-Mart. The Diesel Kleen & Cetane Boost is an excellent supplement for low sulfer diesel. It provides great lubrication and also improves the fuel by adding cetane. Cetane is to diesel what octane is to gasoline. For winter time use, Power Service also makes Diesel Fuel Supplement & Cetane Boost which can winterize the diesel down to -40F! Their website is www.powerservice.com

I have used, with pretty good results, Howe's diesel additive. I buy it at truck stops and it only takes a few ounces to treat a tank of fuel. It also helps keep the injectors clean. Still best of all is the good old high sulfur fuel. We can still get it at farm stores here and the added value of buying it is that it is road tax exempt. That means I can save about 35 cents a gallon when I buy it.

A wide range of products are available to compensate. Anything from 5W motor oil to custom blended fuel is used. I use an additive (polar) that 1qt will treat 200 gal. Cost is around $8. Sold at most all truck stops, auto supply stores, farm stores, some service stations selling diesel. I used to think that motor oil was not recommended, but as it was pointed out, Cummins sells a unit for big engines that burns the crankcase oil slowly and replaces it with new oil, eliminating oil changes. Years ago, in Indiana, the EPA caught a hazardous waste hauler who owned a chain of truck stops, blending waste pcb oil in with the diesel fuel to dispose of it( he's still in jail and broke). So most anything oily will burn. Just be sure it's filtered, any abrasives will ruin the pump and injectors PDQ.
