Dave,
Trouble! I am pretty sure the head gasket has gone on 135.Probably because it had been run for years without a thermostat and then I put one in it and used it pretty hard. Smoke and some wateryness by the exhaust, bubbles in top of rad etc. I have drained it down. Was still running reasonably well though. My problem is althiough I have a Perkins manual in PDF format some things are still not clear.

The motor is an old one, October 65 stamped on the sump. Number by bypass outlet is 2357509c. I see from previous postings that the head can be a stuggle to remove but I am confident that I can do that. There are several different gaskets though. Which one?Just earlier type? Is that exact enough to order one? Also the manual says use non-setting gasket sealant. Hermotite red or Hylomar blue? Is that still necessary with better devloped gaskets? Manual also says run and re-torque upon re-assembly and then again after 25-50 hours. Do this too? You knowledge would be really appreciated.
Best Regards and many thanks
Ian
