Hello board, I have been a freq user of the Ford board to help me with my 8N ( good people) I have had the good fortune to stumble over what I think is a great tractor. I need this boards options. (Thanks ahead of time) The tractor is a MF-35 Diesel Deluxe #SNW 244477 with 39829 on the Hr meter. The condition is very good, seems all or mostly all the original parts are still installed the paint is good (for 35+ year old tractor). It runs OK after installing a new Batt and seems to have been well maintained by its last owner (past on a couple of years ago). Now my questions 1. In comparison to a 8N - What are its advantages and disadvantages?
2. What is the availablity of parts and costs
3. What are the problem areas to inspect and watch out for?
4. What is a reasonable price for a "good" MF35 in the Southeast US?
5. Any other info or web site links for additional info would be appreciated?

Thanks for your time and advise, Jim

I wanted an 8N until, I found a MF35 with Perkins diesel for sale. Very little comparison, about the same dimensions, and style, but that's it. The Massey has a three speed transmission, with high/low range, live power, live hydraulics, 12 volt negative ground electrical system, and about 15 more horsepower. Glad I found my MF35, before I bought an 8N. I've had it three years, with zero problems and use it seriously.

The MF35 diesel is like having an 8N on steriods. Lots more power, same small maneuverable size, a little more weight, live pto, hopefully power steering, stronger hydraulics, for its size its the tractor to kill for. A machine like you've described should go for between $3,500 and $4,500. Good luck! If you get it you'll be throwing rocks at the 8N. Don't get me wrong, I have a soft spot for 8N's also, but the Massey is a great machine.

WVMark said it should go for $3,500 to $4,000. Let me tell you that when I was looking for my tractor I found a 35 gas that the dealer was asking $5,600 for. It was a rat at that. I just smiled said no thinks and walked away. I would have been happy to give $4,000 for a nice diesel job. So, if you can get it for that, go for it! Oh yes, don't get it into a tug-a-war with your 8N, or the 8N will look like a stretch limo plowing your field. I too have a soft spot for the 8N and 9N family, but I still love my JOHN DEERE!

The biggest advantage that you will notice is the increase in power. High and low range transmission. Live pto. Excellent hyraulics.Parts are available at any MF dealer and many aftermarket sources at reasonalbe cost.
