I bought a tractor at a local massey dealer
a few weeks ago.Kind of a project tractor, a 165
massey with an engine knock.A week after buying
it i saw the dealers add in a monthly magazine
for the same tractor 500.00 less than I paid.
I casually mentioned it to him the other day,
He turned red, said "well-ah,we had to do some
work on it,which was an obvious lie.I made the deal,am satisfied with the tractor, but it kind
of left hard feelings. What do you think. Thanks.

I have been to auctions where there were two tractors the same year and model and one will sell for considerably more than the other. There are a lot of variables to consider, you did not see the one advertised in the monthly publication. How can you blame someone else when you pay too much for a tractor?

I once ran a newspaper add to sell an old Ford tractor for $1800. A man came to look at it and asked if I'd settle for $1900. He obviously had me confused with another seller he'd seen advertising. I told him I'd be glad to take his offer but was only asking $1800. He turned a little red, gave me my $1800, and left a happy but embarrassed tractor owner. I would have taken $1700 if he had his act together when he started negotiating. Should I be mad I didn't originally ask $2000? Guess it's all a matter of point of view.

Rick, You make my point for me. You could have
took the extra 100.00,then in a few days when
the man ran across your add and was pissed off
called you back and you said,YOU Made the deal.
You were honest and made a friend.I don't care
about the 500.00,I've done business with them for
30 years thinking they were my friends and they
do this to me.I was at a farm sale the other
day when one of there mechanics came up to me
said,Haven't seen you for a while.I told him
why,he laughed and walked off.

years ago i did a good-faith bargaining with a dealer in Lynchburg, Virginia for a used backhoe. On the way to the bank to arrange money transfer i picked up a machine trader paper at a store. the dealer had the same back hoe advertised for $500 less than i bargained for. I have never been back on his lot. its a shame cause he has equipment i would like to purchase. but i know i could never trust him. Some people would call it business, i call it cheating people out of hard earned money. and since its my money...

I have had a dealer to turn sour too. A while back I saw this 135 MF Diesel at a very large John Deere dealership. While looking at the tractor a salesman came up and asked if I were interested in the 135. I could tell that the engine had been worked on and asked the salesman to start it up. Engine sounded like an air compressor. Noticed that silcone was used on the head gasket but after removing some of the silcone I notice that there was no head gasked installed. I made the mistake of pointing that out to the salesman and he asked me to make him an offer. I made an offer and he ran inside to see his boss. When they both returned, we finally agreed on a price and I promised to return the next day to pickup the tractor. The next day when I went into the office to pay for the tractor I was asked to get off their property. They even threaten to have me arrested if I didn't leave. When I went to my vehicle I noticed that they had the tractor in their shop. As I stood their, one of their employees came over and told me the story. They had taken the tractor on a trade and had spent several dollars trying to figure out what was wrong with the engine. It was a blessing to them that I came along. I called the manager of the John Deere dealership and reminded him that what goes around will come around. I know of at least 3 new tractor sales that he has lost and word has got around so that he will lose more sales. The old saying of -- what goes around -- comes around -- holds true, even when it comes to buying tractors.

Were you happy with your original deal? Remember you made the deal and now have to live with it. Sometimes you get burned and other times you make out like a bandit. Good luck
