Hello, Does anyone have any experience with a MF 165 dsl power steering pump leaking ps fluid into the crankcase? The fluid leaks out of the pump in about a day. Is this a simple fix, or should I look for another pump? Will the ps fluid cause any problems with the engine? The tractor is seldom used, but I would like to fix the pump if it only involves a simple seal replacement.
TIA

I had the very problem you are referring to with my MF 165D. I ran two cannisters of Dextron III into the crankcase before fixing the problem. Sure cleans out your engine! Take your PS Pump out and inspect it. There is only one seal on the shaft. Either the rubber part of the seal is bad (which should be obvious), or the seal is loose in the housing. On mine the seal was loose, which I fixed by gluing in place with JB weld. Its still in there and that was quite a few hours ago. Good Luck!

Hello Mike -

Odds are it's a seal.

Two different pumps listed in my 1971 parts book.
The pump installed on 9A 112205 and up takes a 1 039 684 M1 seal, no cross reference info available in my literature; the earlier ones take 834 474 M1 (1 1/4" x 3/4" x 1/4").
