Last week I took my carb apart for a good cleaning. But now that it is back on the tractor, gas flows though and floods it out after about a minute. If I don't shut off the gas I loss most of the tank though the carb drain plug over night. But before I take it apart for the third time maybe someone would be kind enough to tell me what I am missing. Ps. I have the Main jet, and the Idling air adustment set per owner's manual, and it will start and run rough till it floods.
Thanks for the help.
Todd

My MF65 is back up and running. I have a little adjusting to the carb left, but it isn't leaking fuel all over and it doesn't flood after one minute. Even got it out of the barn and ran it around the yard.
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP
TODD

Thats why I like this site. I didn't know the float could be adjusted that simply (my fault for rebuilding instructionless without a kit and just using my own gaskets and o-rings). Lucky the float on mine didn't need adjustment in the first place. Thanks Marlowe.

I bought a rebuild kit, and it did come with a inlet needle, so I do have that. but it seem like some of the O-ring in the kit were the wrong size. But I did buy it from a MF dealer. The kit did say to adjust the floot by binding the arm. It also said the floot should be 1/4 inch from the gasget and straght. So the million dollar question is " do I bend the arm up to stop the fuel, or down?? Pat, Marlowe thanks for the help

A few possibilities:

1. Did you notice a small chrome-plated cylinder with a pointed end fall out of the carb when you took the float off (about half and inch long)? I don't know what it is called (inlet needle?), but it is what the float pushes up against to block off the fuel flow at the inlet when the bowl is full. It is not attached to the carb, and only rests against the float mechanism to keep it in place, so it easy to lose when taking the carb apart (speaking from experience, since I almost lost mine; luckily I didn't sweep up the shop floor before I tested the carb). If you didn't put it back in, then the fuel will just keep flowing through the carb.

2. Any small holes poked in the float by accident?

3. Float mechanism jammed down when you put the carb back together.

I don't believe that these are even adjustable on the 65 carb I rebuilt last year (at least not in the way I would expect them to be from other carbs I have taken apart). I may be wrong.
