Does anyone know where the tach cable attaches at, I have a altennator, tractor serial # represents that it was made in 68, does it screw into the altennator or somewhere else. Also, is there any way to clean the auxiliry hyd. pump filter without splitting the tractor.

The tach cable originally hooked up to the generator, assuming that you have the 236 Perkins engine you can get a 90 degree tach drive for a 255/265 which used this engine and mounts on the front timing cover. Your tractor should have a plate on the timing cover that you can remove and install this adapter. Then you may have to get a slightly longer tach drive cable to reach from the adapter to the tach. All of these parts can be bought from aftermarket suppliers and is reasonalby priced. As for the filter you may can get it out by removing the lift top and the left hand plate on the side of the rear end housing where the PTO linkage goes through. Before removing the lift top make sure you remove the right hand cover where your hyd/trans. dipstick goes in and remove the roller in the control valve fork on the pump to keep from destroying the control linkage when you remove the lift top. If you do not have a service manuel get one or at least consult an experienced Massey-Ferguson mechanic.

LP, look on the front of the timing cover on the alternator side and you will see a small plate with 2 allen head screws. Remove this plate and align the flat drive on the 90 degree tach drive with the slot in the gear and bolt it on. the same allen head screws should work. Then just hook up the tach cable and you are in business. I do not know your location but you can get these parts through several aftermarket suppliers. I would suggest trying Worthington Ag Parts at 1-888-845-8456, they have several locations around the country and there should be one fairly close to you. Probably for the 90 degree adapter and a longer tach cable should not be over $60.00-$75.00.
