I just bought a mf-12 bailer, and would appreciate any and all information relating to operating and maintaining this piece of equipment.

I have an MF20 and a friend has an MF12. Both are very similar to the earlier 703 for which reprint manuals are available in the UK. Maintenance is essentially hunt for all the grease points and keep the knotters clean. Mine doesnt miss a knot in 1000 bales.

I have a 9 and it has worked wonderfully for years. Although last year it started getting confused; it now wants to make round bales instead of square ones. I haven't figured that one out yet. I can tell you one thing for sure, pay close attention to what kind of twine you are running in it. That is the biggest factor in mine working right or not. Here in TN we have Farmer's Co-ops and their twine will not work in it at all!! I was just about to run it off in the creek and let it wash down river because it was missing a tie every two or three bales. I had adjusted everything there was to adjust and it still wouldn't work. I ran out of twine one Saturday afternoon and sent my niece into the small town where the farm is and she came back with some hardware store brand twine and instantly my baler worked perfectly. Didn't miss a tie for the rest of the time. I don't know who makes this twine, but I do know from the farmers around here who use Massey balers they all recommend New Holland twine. Where ever you get your twine, make sure that it is uniform in size. The twine that gives me fits runs thick in places and then runs so small in other places that it breaks when you pick up the bale. Find a good twine and stick with it and you'll have three quarters of your baling problems licked.

Good luck.
