I am looking at buying a MF 135, it has a engine noise. Something like a bad timing gear set or chain, or something in the valvetrain. My question is are engine parts hard to get? I have been told it is hard to get parts for these and am not sure if I want to fix this tractor or not. Thanks in advance Chuck.

Chuck-

I've got a 35, older than the 135 but same
134 gas engine. They made a ton of these and
parts haven't been an issue. Further, AGCO
has treated me fine: oil filter $5, gas petcock
24.50, starter $135, shop manual $18. Maybe on some of the oddball tractors they're high? Dealers
may be different - "Heins Tractor" in Valatie
New York gets good reviews, if you're in the
area.

Perkins made the A3,152 3cyl diesel engine and the AG3,152 3cyl gas engine for the 135, this engine is of legendary popularity world wide in a wide range of applications and is still being manufactured for sale outside Europe, Within europe it has been replaced by the 900 series - basically the same engine designed to meet the latest emmission rules. Perkins is now owned by Caterpillar. I would expect perkins to make spares for this engine for a long way into the future, and if they dont non genuine parts suppliers will keep it going.

Chuck. Since you identified your engine as gas, parts for the engine are available from your local MF dealer or there are two continental sources that I have used for "stuff" that my dealer didn't have or couldn't get. One is in Chicago and is call Montes Equipment. They have a web site, www.montesequipment.com. The other place is a continental dealer located in Portland Or. They are West Bearing & Parts, 503-227-6577.
If you are looking for a engine rebuild kit your local NAPA dealer can probable get one or your local tractor dealer through a provider called Tisco. These kits run about 550.oo the last time I checked. Good luck

The AGCO corporation owns Massey-Ferguson and that's where you go for new parts. They have a VERY bad reputation VERY EXPENSIVE PARTS PRICES. Perkins Diesel engine parts prices are already expensive to begin with. They have very poor customer service and I wouldn't trust them to carry all of your parts for many years to come.
