Battery doesn't seem to be charging when running. Checked voltage at battery when running. It read 12 volts. Shouldn't it be higher? I did have the generator and regulator checked and was told that they were OK. Perhaps I need to repolarize the generator. How should this be done? Any suggestions?

Thanks guys. I will check at higher revs. I did put a voltmeter accrossed the generator terminals at a medium idle and got nothing at all. Is it shot?

Generators don't charge untill the RPM is rather high. You shouldn't expect to see it charging at idle. Rev the engine up and see if it puts out then.

I polarize the generator by quickly shorting the field terminal and the battery terminal on the regulator. Just an instantious touch works, prolonged contact destroys the regulator and or generator.Normal voltage when charging is 12.5V to 14.5V depending on state of charge of the battery.

I think the polarization is supposed to be done with the field wire disconnected from the regulator.
