Just purchased a MF35(Z134 engine), to help out around our 40 acres. The seller wasn't home when we looked at this tractor, but his wife graciously allowed us access to the unheated shed that it was kept in, to start her up and try her out; (I'm talking about the tractor here). The temperature was 25F degrees, and although a few of you have indicated that this gas engine is a hard start in the cold temps, it started (cold), without the choke, in 5 to 6 cranks, (once warm it repeatedly started in 2 to 3). This tractor has fuel, amp , oil, & temp gauges; all of which work. Both rear and one front tire were brand new. The only measurable deficiency in the metal is that the rear of one of the fenders is bent as if it had been backed into a tree. Original paint is dull with normal usage scratches, but obviously kept out of the weather. Light assemblies are complete but when attempted to turn them on, it kills the engine. Paid $3700 for tractor, a nice 8ft grader and a mediocre bushhog.

Did we do okay here?

I've seen the terms "deluxe", and "super deluxe" when referring to this model.
What's the difference?

The serial # is SGM247336. I understand this to have been built in 1964, (the last model year). Is this information correct?

I also just came into posession of a MF 35 Delux. The engine oil was very old. Changed that. The caruretor flooded. Took that apart and cleaned. Works OK now. The hydraulic/gear box (I hate to call it oil) was so bad, thick, with water too, that I changed it. I put tractor hydraulic fluid back in. Did I do right?

One other question: I want to change the oil and filter as the seller had not recently changed it; (which I prefer. New oil in a "for sale" item worries me a little). I assume 10W30 is adequate.????

The multi vis. is probably what you want this time of the year, but the SAE-30 during the summer is probably the right thing to do then. Sounds like a great tractor you got there, may be a good idea to change the transmission/
differential/hydrolic fluid now too if it shows some age.

Last August I purchased a 35 MF (gas) Deluxe understood to be a 1965 year model. Serial Number - SGM 244521

Paid $3800 with back blade and boom. Tractor had two owners and had 861 hours with new rubber all around and a new paint job. I believe I paid a small but fair price for a very good tractor.

Problems have turned out to be no charging and carburetor needed cleaning. Float was slightly collapsed as carburetor would sometimes leak gas. Float cost $8.00 and gasket was about 60 cents. Ground brush in generator turned out to have an intermittent bad ground. Did take a long time to find. Now I am trying to get the regulator adjusted so it will charge properly. Rear light has a bad ground (minor to fix) and I cannot get the instrument bulb out. A limb grabbed a plug wire while bush hogging and broke the end of the plug. Also limb took my good hat off and the bush hog cut it up.

I have six speeds and live power take off. My 35 has a fuel, amp , oil, & temp and proofmeter gauges.

A few posts back someone told me that a Super Deluxe had a locking differential. Do not know what else.

The biggest problems that everyone has seem to have are water in the oils or carburetor which freeze and breaks something. If left outside water gets in by the shifter boots and eventually freezes. The hydraulic oils get dirt and grime and sludge and eventually do not work properly.

I think you got a good buy. I will answer any questions that I know. Sounds like you might have an electrical problem.

You did OK.
