I have inherited an old pedal toy from my grand fathers estate. I know very little about it and wonder if any one out there could enlighten me as to what it may be worth. It seems to be in relatively all original condition and is with all of the original hadware except for a wire latch on one of the mock tool boxes mounted to the rear fender. Would apreciate some guidance on this one.

Terry,

That pedal crawler was mentioned in an article in the December Toy Farmer. Doug Harke has had a series of articles recently about pedal tractor literature.

These tractors sold for $39.95, there was a blade for $3.95, and there was also a cart. A package including all three pieces was $60.85,

He can be contacted at dharke@rochester.rr.com

Doug is one the recognized experts in the farm toy hobby - maybe he can help. He's a busy guy, so it may take him a while to answer you.

If you have what I think you have then you have a very rare and valuable pedal toy. I'm back at college now and don't have a price guide handy, but if I remember correctly there is a Caterpillar pedal dozer from that era that is potentially worth thousands of dollars. I believe that it was available as a pedal model, electric model, or gas engine model. I'm not absolutely sure how much the different models differ in price, but in any case you have a collectors item there that is worth a great deal. The next time I make a trip home I can get my price guide and check or maybe someone else with better insight can reply and give you a better answer. Hope this helps!
