I am in the process of restoring two 1/16 Farmall 856's. I have found a place to order the decals, tires, seats, etc. I am working on stripping the tractor down to the bare metal with a dremel tool. I have primed some pieces with a sandable primer. My two questions are what methods are others using to remove old paint and decals and where are you getting your paint? Is the spray paint from the dealer my best bet or is there away that can get some better paint in this small amount? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance.

James,

I have sandblasted some toys and they turned out great. I have also let them soak in a gallon of carburetor cleaner. You can buy carb cleaner by the gallon at Autozone. Paint stripper in a spray can works, but it usually takes several coats. I think I like the carb cleaner best.

I have also found that spraying the parts down with carb clearner, in a spray can, before I paint them, gets rid of any oil or grease that can get on them during handling.

if you you use emplement paint from IH dealer there are 2 colors the old IH and the new CaseIH the only diference it the old IH dosent shine as much but it still lookes good I dident use primer on the ones that I did but you had to lut the paint dry for a mounth or it would wrinkel bad I dont know if it dont like aluminum or what but after I figured that out a can would put several coats on 2 or 3 1/16 toys Thomas
