3010 missing load jet

When I bought my 3010 it seemed to run very rich, was hard to start. Floods very easy. removed zenith carb and took it to dealer for repair. He told me that the load jet (bottom right) was not there . that there was a "plug" there instead. Have not been able to find one. Did run the tractor this summer, bad run on at shutdown, excess black smoke. Now this winter I can't get it started. Sputters twice then never fires again. Plugs look real wet. Will "sputter again in about 4-5 hours sitting. Is this missing load jet the culprit and where can I get one?

Had similar symptoms on my 3010 this fall. Checked the oil in the air filter and found frozen slush instead of oil. Drained and refilled, no more problems. Hope this helps.

I have a 3010U as well as a 3020U and both are gas's and both have had the carb's replaced at one time. Both carbs are newer cast ones but don't have a hole for the load screw. I suppose to keep up with the EPA crap. it runs pretty good, but not near as good as I have heard them with the load needle. Any other hints on what a guy can do to tweak the carb, or are we SOL?
Thanks
Brad

you might check your converter pressure. take the plug out and see if it will crank with it out. i dont know how well it will run with out the load jet but you might get it to crank this way.as soon as it cranks you will need to put the plug bakk in good luck
