Considering going to look at at 70 JD. Cannot remember if a 70 typically had factory 3 point or power steering. Can y'all help?

Matthew, the early 70's [below s/n 7013000] didn't have a power steering option. Not all 70's came with a live PTO so if that is important make sure the one you're looking at does. There was no factory 3-point option but there was a dealer installed 800-801 available. If it has manual steering it should have the bigger 4 spoke steering wheel. If you are going to use the tractor for tight for work, or add a loader, or any frame mounted implements it will be real hard to steer without power steering. If you need a creeper 1st gear the 70 isn't for you either as 1st & reverse gear is plenty fast. It will also be a fuel hog [even when idling around & playing]. Now that I pointed out it's possible short comings I will point out it is great tractor that is fun to use, sounds great, has plenty of power & is a great addition to your fleet. I have one & wouldn't be without one, it is just a fun tractor to own.

Hey Matthew, Typically, they did not have 3 pt. hitches and were considered "pull type" tractors. A JD manufactured add on 3 point hitch like the 801 was used on the rock shafts and then you could have a 3 pt hitch, but it wanst anything like the later 720 etc which had true factory 3 pt with draft control, heavy solid lift arms, and built in top link attachment point. Factory Power Steering was an available option, being similar to the later 720 orbital front pedestal units, but most I used to buy sell and use didnt have it. I sold my last 70 last year but still love the old girls, especially if equipped with factory PS. Good luck, Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

If you have a 720 or 30 with out a factory 3 point and you add one of Tony's units does the draft control work ?

It will work on a 720 or 730 if it had factory 3 pt but the lift arms etc had just been removed, but the add on to rockshaft units like on the 70 etc would not have. Ol John T
