We had a 51 B on the farm. The original color for the 51 B is black. Our 630 had yellow.

dave is correct that they are black. the yellow did not come out until the 720. the yellow was introduced because it was cooler then the black one were. johndeeregene

gene,

You've got it nailed about that cooler thing. The black seats should not sit out in the sun! The good summertime uniform is the yellow seat. Save the black one for Fall and Winter. In other word, buy both color sets.

I guess I'll have to put in my 2 cents the only bad thing about the yellow ones is they show up the greasy/dirty hand prints so well and as a suggestion on the black ones in the summer sun just flip it over when you're not setting on it

I have a 49 styled AR. I bought it from the son of the original owner. The seat was yellow on it. The guy said he didn't remember it ever being replaced. It looked original to me. Anyway, It is yellow again. I like it. Unless you are going to show the tractor, it doesn't really matter. Go with what you like. 99% of the people that see it won't care one way or the other. It is only us few nuts that notice things like that. Most of us that have done one of these ourselves, understand the work and money that is involved, and don't make disparaging remarks about somebody elses efforts.

Larry,

You're absolutely right about not making disparaging remarks - all that does is give someone else a chance to look at our tractors that much closer and to tear them apart.

I tried as hard as I could to make my '41 B as original as it could be, but you just have to do a couple of things that make it feel just like the one you grew up on - an oak step on the drawbar, a spinner knob - all those little goodies that make it yours and no one elses.

Best regards,

Stan

Dave K is right about the black being correct. The yellow seats did not become available until the 20 series tractors came out, and may have even been an option on them.

Go with black.

Mine are black (the cushions) I have seen yellow ones also and both colors are available. Most I see are black but I guess, as it is your tractor, you can choose what you like.
