My 49 B has a gear shift that would have a gear shift knob. Is that correct? Thanks-Bob

It's a lot easier to shift one with the knob. The old shift lever part number subs over to the new lever with the knob which is the same as used on the Model 50 tractors.

The origonal shift lever is no longer available and john deere subs the numbers over to a 50 shift lever.

the number series tractor had knobs and I would imagine that a lot of them are retro fitted....however I had a 50 B and it had the knob and to my knowledge it may have been original. Maybe Deere tried tractors both ways...sometime they had different parts in their bins...Deere seemed to use whatever was avalable on these tractors....

My son's 47 B has the gearshift knob on it. He didn't like it until we confirmed that it is a genuine JD part. (I saw a NOS one on ebay las year and started doing some checking)

My 1948 B has a threaded gear shift that is set up for a knob. It was that way when I bought it.

Bob,

Harvey is right - if it has a knob, it's some sort of replacement.
