A few years back I replaced the clutch disc in my JD MT. It was available from the dealer at that time and would think your 40 clutch would be also. Not cheap mind you but available. Strange thing was that On that tractor the throwout bearing carrier broke, the carrier was available from our nearest parts depot, the disc came from acorss the country somewhere. I would check to see if the disc might be available from auto parts place, NAPA might have it.

I do not have a year or model, but have been told that a clutch plate from a Ford pickup will fit. My guess is that the truck might be a model from the 50's or 60's. If interested in exploring this possibility, take your plate to an independent parts store and ask them to check their inventory. Let us know if you find a substitute for the JD part.

If it is not avalible from the dealer. You might think about having the clutch and pressure plate rebuilt. A good Brake and clutch reline shop can help you out with the relining of the clutch and referb you pressure plate. I just had a 420 T rebuilt, looks new and it was around $100.00 to reline. I had the flywheel turned 0.015 for $60.00. Problem is the pilot bearing is only avalible from Deere at $35.00. No other replacement like SKF or Tempkin for the pilot bearing, and the throw out was $16.00.

Your Deere dealer has the clutch disc. Also the pilot bearing (JD8511T) is available very cheap in the following brands:
New Departure part number: 7109
BCA or Fed. Mog. part number: 7109
Motion Industries part number: 16400
