I have a John Deere "A" and the float stuck, Had 8 gallon of gas mixed with the oil(2 gallon) and ran it for about 15 minutes(idle). Shut engine off after seeing gas come out of exhuast. After saying a few choice words, finally got motor un seized, changed oil and started right up. Did I ruin the engine? It runs ok now but I probably took some time off of the ol girl huh? Anyone else ever do this?

My brother did a similar stunt with his JD 50 a few years ago. He left the gas on over night and when he started the tractor the next morning we had a solid stream of liquid come out of the straight pipe and slime the wall and the door of the barn. We changed the oil and have never had a problem since but don't leave the gas on on any of our Deeres.

Hey Mr. Ohhhhh hhhhh h, Have had same or worse thigns happen and know the feeling. My best guess is you probably didnt cause any long term damage, because even as thinned as it was by gas, you still had oil circulating and one of its main purposes, besides just as a lube, is to extract heat and carry it away from the bearings, which the thinned mixture still did. I doubt the lock up was any bearings froze, but more a hydraulic plain old simple too much fluid in combustion and head area like the good clooney man was thinkin there below. Anyway, she sure got a good clean out huh?? Take Care n God Bless Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

Probably not, maybe it just hydro-locked when you shut it down due to fuel/oil running into the cylinders. If it wasn't run under load there was probably still enough oil in the gas to protect the bearings & cylinders. Only time [or a teardown] will tell for sure though..... ...
