Most aggravating setup in the world. What's the best alternative to the original dual canister fuel filter setup on a 4010? Broke the shoulder bolt out of one side and the top clamp is screwed up. Parts no longer available from JD, but was able to find them NOS at a dealer. One of the parts (shoulder bolt) was the only one in US according to JD locator. I would love to do something different, but what?

There used to be a kit for converting the older tractors to the modern filter----another benefit of the new-style filter is that your injection pump will last much longer, too.

Going to the later style glass or metal filter is the way to go. You really don't even need the dual filter set-up, as long as you install some sort of trash screen ahead of the main filter. Later JD tractors use only one of the newer filters with not problems. Your Deere dealer should have everything you need. Don't even mess with trying to get a used filter base - they're pretty reasonable brand new, and you won't have to worry about leaks. The steel lines can also be replaced with good quality, steel-braid fuel or hydraulic line. It's a little easier to work with than the old pipes.

Yep, just update to a modern filter setup.
Check if the JD dealer has a kit for that. I thought I heard there was a kit.
Otherwise a salvage yard....
Good luck.

I'd put on a setup from a 3020 so then you don't have to screw with upside down filters and sideways ones. The side by side setup. It doesn't have to be anything special. Find a fixed location to mount it to and hook up your lines, you may have to lenghten/shorten them. I'd just get one assembly from a salvage yard.

Hope this helps!

You're right these can be mean to change. I've seen a few 4010s with either the glass filters or spin on from a later unit. Don't know if this is a JD update or they just went to a junkyard and got the changeover parts off a later tractor.
