Hey John, youre sure not alone lol. Been there done that and I HATE to get shocked. Anyway, its true that with a high performance high energy electronic ignition and coil, you can and normally do run a wider plug gap, and I would see if the units directions gave any specific guidance as to how much. That longer, hotter, wider, fatter, more surface area arc is good for igniting the fuel charge. Its also true, however, that theres a point of diminishing return as far as how wide the gap is, because since the spark gap discharges a finite amount of energy, being what was stored in the coils magnetic field during its conduction cycle, that is volts TIMES amps, and as the gap widens the voltage rises BUT the current decreases. A general guess may be a gap from 0.040 to 0.050 would be good, but see what the directions call for. There are many variables like compression and fuel and timing etc etc and teh units ratings that determine the best gap ranges. God Bless and Good Luck, Ol John T Nordhoff
