I have recently bought a 39 styled A model JD and I have a welded up muffler and exaust pipe. The manifold is ok I guess it has the four bolt flange. Does any one know what the correct system is supposed to look like. If anyone has a picture or diagram please email it to me.

John T. is right, a 39 "A" has the four bolt manifold flange, the same as the unstyled "A"s.
Actually a 39 is basically an undtyled tractor, except for the sheet metal. If your tractor still has it's original manifold it takes an exhaust pipe unique to the 39s, as this was the only year that styled "A"s used a four bolt flangeed manifold. These can be hard to find-if you can't find one, I have a pretty decent used one I would sell quite reasonably. I'm saving my NOS one for when I restore my 39!

Hey Old Iron guy, As gwh was so kind to inform me on here a while back, 39 was sort of the crossover period in which the A's were just being styled and some were almost a hybrid. As far as I know, to the 4 bolt manifold, an exhaust pipe and flange is attached, which fits into and up inside the muffler, which is 4 bolted down to the cast flange base up there on top. I bought all that stuff new from JD and (for my B, but A;s a lil diff)) found some is available as after market reproduction also. Here or at Rummys, there ought to be plenty pictures to look at. God Bless Ol John T Nordhoff
