I've got a 1955 60 (s/n 6048041) and need to find a Deere parts and service manual for the power steering system. Where do I find the serial/model number of the power steering system so I can order these manuals?
Thanks

Al in Iowa

Call 800-522-7448 with credit card in hand, and order SM 2050. That covers all 2-cylinder power steering systems, and is a LOT better than any I&T manual.

Al, you really won't find any serial numbers on the steering components. The steering is broken down by tractor serial numbers & tractor type but seeing as many of the old tractors have either had the power steering added or the later worm & sleeves added that won't help either.
~The Deere service & overhaul manual will probably point you to the Deere Power Steering manual anyhow & I believe that manual covers all the P/S systems.
~Sorry I don't have the Deere power steering service manual number handy where I'm at now but I'm sure someone will have & post the manual number for you.
~Actually the I&T manual does a pretty good job of covering the power steering overhaul on the old Deere's & includes pictures on how to identify the steering system you have.

Thanks much for the assistance, guys!
I learned a long time ago that a GOOD (read: Deere) manual will solve a lot of problems (and decrease my intake of Tylenol!)
I'll order the Deere #SM2050 tomorrow
