I have a 620 that I want to take the hood off.My question is about the steering rod that goes thru the hood? Where and how does it come apart to get the hood off? Also, is there anything else I should be concerned about in getting the hood off?

i had really no problem taking the hook off of my '54 70. had to take the front grill off and the steering shaft. then take out the bolts holding on the hook and lift the hood off. then the fuel tank came off separate with 2 straps holding the tank to the support brackets.

Allen, when I had previously (quite easily)helped remove Ben n Henrys 720 hoods this summer then had to remove my 620, I said "bad" words and cursed JD design engineers lol. I may have even been guilty of blasphemy??? BECAUSE the 620 (mine at least) had the gas tank attached to the hood as opposed to simply lifting the sheet metal off the frame and frame mounted gas tank like on a 720. Mine has Power Steering, so the steerign shaft pulls easily out of the splined PS coupler by removing a hollow roll spring pin and safety wire. All the gas lines and that fuel vapor vent line and fuel related STUFF has to be removed so the sheet metal hood comes off with the gas tank still mounted up inside it. I think I removed the oil lines from my sediment bowl shutoff and was able to screw it out of the tank. Theres a wire to the fuel gauge sender also. grrrrr rrrrr r.

Let us know and good luck. Ol John T Nordhoff

Allen, with or without power steering? It makes a difference.
